In anticipation of Angela Davis's free public lecture at the Missouri Theatre (January 24, 7pm), Ragtag Cinema and MU Division of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity present a free MLK Day screening and discussion of Free Angela and All Political Prisoners<\/i> at Ragtag Cinema.<\/p>\n

Monday, Jan. 16, 3pm. Free, but tickets required. Pick one up at the box office beginning at 10am.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Following the film, Dr. Stephanie Shonekan (Associate Professor of Ethnomusicology and Black Studies, University of Missouri, Columbia) will moderate a Q&A with Dr. David Mitchell (Associate Dean, School of Law, MU) and Dr. Keona Ervin (Assistant Professor, Department of History, MU).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Angela Yvonne Davis is an American political activist, academic scholar, and author. She emerged as a prominent counterculture<\/a> activist and radical in the 1960s as a leader of the Communist Party USA<\/a>, and had close relations with the Black Panther Party<\/a> through her involvement in the Civil Rights Movement<\/a>. Her interests include prisoner rights; she co-founded Critical Resistance<\/a>, an organization working to abolish the prison-industrial complex<\/a>. She was a professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz<\/a>, in its History of Consciousness<\/a> Department and a former director of the university's Feminist Studies<\/a> department.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
