We think it's great that our community has such an interest in social justice.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In anticipation of Angela Davis's free public lecture at the Missouri Theatre (January 24, 7pm), Ragtag Cinema and MU Division of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity present a free MLK Day screening and discussion of <i>Free Angela and All Political Prisoners<\/i> at Ragtag Cinema.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday, Jan. 16, 3pm. Free, but tickets required. Pick one up at the box office beginning at 10am.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Following the film, Dr. Stephanie Shonekan (Associate Professor of Ethnomusicology and Black Studies, University of Missouri, Columbia) will moderate a Q&amp;A with Dr. David Mitchell (Associate Dean, School of Law, MU) and Dr. Keona Ervin (Assistant Professor, Department of History, MU).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Angela Yvonne Davis is an American political activist, academic scholar, and author. She emerged as a prominent <a title=\"Counterculture of the 1960s\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Counterculture_of_the_1960s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">counterculture<\/a> activist and radical in the 1960s as a leader of the <a title=\"Communist Party USA\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Communist_Party_USA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Communist Party USA<\/a>, and had close relations with the <a title=\"Black Panther Party\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Black_Panther_Party\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Black Panther Party<\/a> through her involvement in the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Civil Rights Movement\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Civil_Rights_Movement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Civil Rights Movement<\/a>. Her interests include prisoner rights; she co-founded <a title=\"Critical Resistance\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Critical_Resistance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Critical Resistance<\/a>, an organization working to abolish the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Prison-industrial complex\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Prison-industrial_complex\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prison-industrial complex<\/a>. She was a professor at the <a title=\"University of California, Santa Cruz\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_California,_Santa_Cruz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of California, Santa Cruz<\/a>, in its <a title=\"History of Consciousness\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/History_of_Consciousness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">History of Consciousness<\/a> Department and a former director of the university's <a title=\"Feminism\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Feminism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Feminist Studies<\/a> department.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>All the tickets for our free show today have been distributed.
