The Life & Time of Tim Hetherington. The film traces the heroic career of journalist Tim Hetherington, who died covering the Libyan civil war in 2011. Junger and Hetherington co-directed the Oscar-nominated documentary Restrepo (T/F 2010), about a platoon of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. Memorably, Hetherington appeared at True/False via Skype, with soldiers from the platoon making a surprise in-person appearance at the fest.

As a result of Hetherington’s death, Junger established Reporters Instructed in Saving Colleagues (RISC). RISC’s mission is to promote the safety of freelance journalists in combat zones by offering free advanced first aid training. An important site for Tim both personally and professionally is the Milton Margai School for the Blind, which provides education and a safe haven for young Sierra Leoneans; most of their students were blinded during that country’s civil war. The TLF funds raised will go to support the work of both organizations.

ABOUT THE TRUE LIFE FUND
In 2007, the True/False Film Fest founded the True Life Fund, a philanthropic effort that raises money and awareness for the subjects of a nonfiction film each year. The True Life Fund offers tangible assistance to real-life subjects of a new film and acknowledges that documentary filmmakers and festivals thrive because of the stories given to us by people who are often of limited means. Support for the True Life Fund comes from outreach within the Columbia community and generous donations from True/False attendees. The Fund is sponsored by The Crossing Church, with media support from KOMU and a matching grant from The Bertha Foundation.

The True Life Fund is administered by the True/False Film Fest, a project of Ragtag Programming for Film and Media Art, a 501(c)3 organization. 5 S 9th St, Columbia, MO 65203 truelifefund@truefalse.org.
