As a fairly long-winded individual with a predisposition for tangents, I try (and often fail) to opt for direct language\u2014brevity and accuracy can be a little elusive for me. So as I start this letter, I\u2019ll try to be as clear about C\u00e9line Sciamma\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ragtagcinema.org\/films\/2071\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Petite Maman<\/a>&nbsp;as the film is itself:&nbsp;<em>it\u2019s<\/em>&nbsp;<em>perfect.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Portrait of a Lady on Fire<\/em>&nbsp;director\u2019s newest film is a small wonder. Short, sweet, innocent, timeless, and revelatory are all fitting descriptions here.&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/ragtagcinema.org\/films\/2071\" target=\"_blank\">Petite Maman<\/a>&nbsp;follows a young girl, Nelly, to her late grandmother\u2019s home. While her mother sorts through belongings and feelings both nostalgic and less-so, Nelly is left to occupy herself. Exploring the woods behind the house, she finds a girl her own age as well as a deep and immediate kinship. The magic that results is best unwrapped for yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ragtagcinema.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/petitemaman-web.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10750\" width=\"838\" height=\"419\"\/><figcaption><em>\u201cMy ?lms are secrets at ?rst. I tend to keep them secrets, but they\u2019re gifts really. A gift is always a secret, at least for a moment.\u201d<\/em><br>\u2014?C\u00e9line Sciamma<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As a new parent and the product of my own parents, I\u2019m at a point in my life where I\u2019m seeing my childhood differently in my child, and seeing my parents differently too\u2014as individuals that were once children, that were once new parents themselves. While films like&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ragtagcinema.org\/films\/2059\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Everything Everywhere All at Once<\/a>, and Pixar\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Turning Red&nbsp;<\/em>can be categorized as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/culture\/23025832\/everything-everywhere-all-at-once-parental-apology-fantasy-turning-red\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Millennial Parent Apology Fantasies<\/a><em>,&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/ragtagcinema.org\/films\/2071\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Petite Maman<\/a><em>&nbsp;<\/em>asks less for an apology from parents and children\u2014rather Sciamma offers a dream-like vision of generational&nbsp;<em>empathy<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mother\u2019s Day is right around the corner,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ted<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Greetings Cinema friends, I rarely throw around the term&nbsp;perfect.
