That, however, does not mean we can\u2019t bring something new to the seasonal table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ragtagcinema.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/001a_NA_02774_R2.max-2000x2000-1-700x467.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10632\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At a bare minimum, many of our forthcoming engagements are snow-swept period-pieces, all a tad melancholy, and all carrying the requisite scale of a December\/January new release\u2026\u00a0<em>sounds like the holidays to me<\/em>. Chief among them is Guillermo del Toro\u2019s\u00a0<em>Nightmare Alley<\/em>\u00a0opening December 17. This remake of the 1947 film noir of the same name is a wintry ensemble piece that spins carnies, con-men, and clairvoyants in old New York, carried by Bradley Cooper, Toni Collette, and Willem Dafoe, as well as Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ragtagcinema.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/carol2021-web.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10633\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting Sunday, December 19th, we find Blanchett and Mara once again in Todd Haynes\u2019\u00a0<em>Carol.<\/em>\u00a0The\u00a0<em>will-they-won\u2019t-they\u00a0<\/em>lesbian mid-century melancholia returns to Ragtag as an alternative holiday classic\u2026 it\u2019s a Christmas\u00a0<em>Carol<\/em>, friends.
