Certainly, we exist to celebrate cinema, but core to that mission are education and community-building.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We educate about film and <em>through<\/em> film: cultivating appreciation and lifelong critical curiosity. To this end, Ragtag is committed to fostering community-wide Media Literacy: <em>How does media influence culture, and how does culture influence media? Who is the author and who is the audience? What are we looking at and how might we look at it differently?<\/em> <em>Can we enjoy the stories we tell and challenge them at the same time?<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ultimately, though, we can\u2019t do any of this if we don\u2019t aspire towards a city that works for people first.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So how do we do this? Let us show you.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/ragtagcinema.org\/series\/77\"><em>Show Me<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>series<em> <\/em>partners with five groups that are dedicated to equity, inclusion, and unity\u2014<em>The Asian Affairs Center at the University of Missouri; Boone County Community Against Violence; The Center Project; Four Directions at the University of Missouri;<\/em> and <em>ROCK The Community<\/em>\u2014to challenge the cinema canon, interrogate form, intention, reaction, and representation, and start meaningful dialogue situated in the city and beyond.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Co-curated and co-presented with ROCK the Community, we screen Shaka King\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/ragtagcinema.org\/films\/1970\"><strong><em>Judas and the Black Messiah<\/em><\/strong><\/a> tomorrow evening at 7pm, followed by a conversation around community power with Dr. Stephen Graves, Associate professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies at the Department of Black Studies, University of Missouri, and ROCK the Community\u2019s own Rodney March.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/jm1A7vsj8WmtWL3Jm3zqDgiEcgu67Gn3ku4rGmm2fn7Wd6KbPD4-XfFBDnggqKVqJZRzi7YZakXJuU9PkDPlE_X2PbjIGhof8Wq7TSd-9mhSkqjbwaKa395Hg63L60sIe7BMB4WB\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ragtagcinema.org\/films\/1970\"><strong><em>Judas and the Black Messiah<\/em><\/strong><\/a><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><em>screens as part of the <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/ragtagcinema.org\/series\/77\"><em>Show Me<\/em><\/a><em> series, Thursday, July 22 at 7pm.
